Counselling with Denise is educational and solution-focused. Denise draws on her education in developmental psychology and her 30 years of working with children and parents to provide clients with pertinent developmental information tailored to their individual family situations.

PARENT COUNSELLING

Denise prefers as a first step to work with parents. An assessment of the child's development in all areas - cognitive, emotional, moral, social and physical can enhance the parents' ability to engage more constructively with their child in everyday situations. In the face of more persistent problems, tailored support and interventions are developed. The goal is to support the parent to take charge before exposing their child or teen unnecessarily to clinical intervention.

TEEN COUNSELLING

Denise can provide critical support for a variety of situations experienced by teens. Meetings focus on attachment to parents, identity formation, under- standing of their own development, and how to successfully deal with peers. Denise helps teens discover “who they are” and how they may build a life for themselves in this challenging world.

CHILD COUNSELLING

Although children can give informed assent to therapy, Denise finds that many problems can be overcome if developmental processes are given a leg-up by the parent. Failing this Denise may suggest a children's group program or meetings with the family at home.
